Yes, you can rent cars in the Azores and this is the best way to get around the island. Unfortunately, the Azores does not recognize the Bermuda Drivers License and although you may be able to rent a car, you will run into problems if stopped by the police. We recommend finding a hotel in Ponta Delgada, the islands capital. There are a few great ones, such as the Grand Hotel Acores Atlantico, Octant Ponta Delgada, and the Hotel Marina Atlantico. This way you are never too far away from a taxi line and also close to shopping/restaurants. The Azores has grown in popularity and as August is peak tourist season for the island, we HIGHLY recommend that you have your stay booked well in advance.
